Blackburnian Warbler
8 x 8 inchs
Palette Knife painting in oil on canvas
This painting is part of a series I painted with palette knives. Painting in this style has helped me to loosen up and concentrate on color and texture. This creates a more abstract look without sacrificing detail.

Vigilant, Barn Owl
9 x 12 inches
Oil on linen canvas
This painting used a combination of brush and palette knife. Here I am trying to achieve depth and texture along with detail.
Great Blue Heron
10.5 x 17.5 Inches
Oil on wood panel
This Great Blue Heron was photographed standing on a floating log in the Lagoons of Presque Isle State Park. As long as there are open waters we can see Herons into the winter months. Once the waters freeze they take off for open water.
The Swimmer, Common Loon
20 x 10 Inches
Oil on canvas board
Every year we seem to see more Loons swimming in the bay at Presque Isle State Park during migration. I love trying to capture movement when I am painting water. Hopefully you can see and feel the flow as this Loon glides through the water.
Tranquil Hens, Female Mallards
16 x 20 Inches
Acrylic on canvas
While it seems most artists paint the male species because of their bright colors, I am also attracted to the females. I photographed these tranquil females along the bay at Presque Isle State Park. I loved seeing the reflections in the calm water next to the shore.
Jone's Mill Run, Laurel Hill State Park
16 x 12 Inches
Oil on linen canvas panel
Every now and then we like to go camping at state parks. In the Spring of 2024 we camped at Laurel Hill State Park. While hiking, I took a photo of this stream while standing on a bridge which crossed its water. During our hikes, I rely on my camera and phone to take reference photos to use for painting back in the studio. Hopefully, this piece captures the beauty of the new growth in Spring.
A Slice of Heaven
12 x 24 Inches
Oil on canvas
I do most of my walking and hiking on the campus of Penn State Behrend. Here is a section between buildings where a stream flows not far from its headwaters at the top of the ridge. This stream flows into 4 mile creek which then empties into Lake Erie. Surrounded by trees it brings a calming affect as you walk by. This painting also reminds people of many little streams the their woods.
