Spotted Two by Two 20 x 10 inches, acrylic on gallery wrap canvas The painted image extends around the edge of the canvas. $395 Contact me for purchasing options I started this piece in October of 2016 and had to put it away while I prepared for Holiday shows and Christmas. Nothing like staring at an unfinished piece for over two months. But to be truthful it helped to just let it sit. Experimenting with painting techniques prior to finishing this piece made a difference. Especially with using a palette knife!
When I first started the painting I wasn't happy with the debris on the far left behind the Spotted Sandpipers and the palette knife painting took care of that area along with some of the foreground area. Painting the roll of the water was fun watching it come alive. I can almost hear the lapping of the water as it came ashore. Painting the Spotted Sandpipers was where I struggled the most. My reference photos were not the best so I tossed back and forth on how much detail to create. I love seeing paintings by artists who seem to know how to paint the impression without going into detail. Anyways I am looking forward to painting more shore birds and water. I the meantime enjoy some of the images below of the piece in progress. Click image to enlarge.
