I don't remember a time being so thoroughly guided through a painting as I was with The Sentinel! Right from the start when I first saw the image of the crow from a photographer friend to the final conception of the whole piece.
After seeing the crow image I was lead to look into understanding crows and their meaning. I started by looking up Crow in my Animal Speak by Ted Andrews. He writes, " Wherever crows are, there is magic. They are symbols of creation and spiritual strength. They remind us to look for opportunities to create and manifest the magic of life. They are messengers calling to us about the creation and magic that is alive within our world everyday and available to us." Upon reading this I began to look for other symbols and came across the expression 'sun crow'. In many cultures the 'sun crow' is three legged and represents creation and a higher power and guidance. There is spirituality and magic with crow. I then knew I needed a sun symbol and chose a Native American symbol. The rays of the sun signified the cardinal directions, North, South, East and West.
There is so much to explore that I will leave you with a few links to check out on your own.
