Terra and Vaughn Before a Window
30 x 24 Acrylic on canvas
Last week was met with challenges as I worked out of my comfort zone. Only on occasion have I worked large which I do enjoy but it was painting people, especially my family, where the stress came in. I have taken life drawing classes and a couple of times painted faces with watercolor but nothing like this. I'm so glad I accepted the challenge and moved beyond my fears with this painting.
My last blog post explained why and how this painting came about. You can catch up by reading it here. So if this looks somewhat familiar it is because it is based on the painting by Mary Cassatt. We were to interpret one of the artists from the Armory Exhibit in Ny in 1913. My daughter in law Terra and my grandson Vaughn graciously accepted to be my models to give Mary Cassatt's painting a modern spin.
Several exhibitions have launched in commemoration of the International Exhibition of Modern Art (Armory Show) and we here in Erie are one such shows. So it was an honor to paint for the show we are calling 'Armerie'. The exhibit opens April 11 with a reception from 6 - 9 pm at the Bayfront Gallery, 17 East Dobbins Landing. The show will run from April 11 till May 11, 2014.
