Sunrise 10 x 10 mixed media on gallery wrap canvas $175 Please contact the artist if you are interested in purchasing the artwork. Sometimes it seems forever to decide what to paint next and then there are times like this when decisions come quickly. At first I wasn't going to participate in the Edinboro Art & Music Festival but after an email from the organizer I decided to participate. I only had a few days to paint and it all came together quite nicely. I love gallery wrapped canvas because you don't need to frame so there was one facet out of the way. Next I went through my photos of roosters which I take at the County Fairs. Even though they are in cages I can still capture enough to use as reference for painting. After locating my photo to use I needed a musical background and since part of the theme was Appalachia I found the appropriate score.
Now to start the painting. I painted the background with acrylics using warm golden tones of Yellow Oxide and Burnt Sienna. Next came the transfer of the music by printing on copy paper coated with Elmers School glue. ** Something tells me I should do a tutorial on my blog using the glue transfer method. ** Once the transfer was done I painted the rooster. Just like any bird I paint if I can get the eye just right the rest falls into place. I was also loving the teal blue and the touches of lavender in his side feathers. Roosters have a lot of character and I love painting them. Enjoy,
