I've been doing a lot of Spiritual reading lately and when I read "If Plan A doesn't work then Plan B must be better." I was uplifted. A lot of plan B's have been happening lately and this painting is one of them.
I usually show more of a work in progress but after looking over my images I thought some things are best left unseen. I was even hesitant in showing this much so far but I'm hoping when it is done you will all go wow that is amazing. (insert a huge smiley face here)
I worked on the layout several times before feeling this was the right one. Then I had the intentions of painting the background in watercolor and the birds in gouache. Actually I did start it that way and part way through ... well lets just say Plan A was not working so I washed the canvas off and started again only this time in acrylics.
If all goes well I have a couple of days that can be spent in the studio without interruption breathing life into this painting.
I'm working from three different photos taken of fall migrating shore birds at the mud flats in Conneaut Ohio. They are in their winter plumage. The one in the upper left corner is a Semipalmated Sandpiper and the other two are Dunlins. About twice a year I get a chance to go with friends to the mud flats and it is always enjoyable. Even better when it is sunny and warm and you can get close to the ground to shoot photos.
And for something different I thought I would show you my amazing grandson! This is the little guy who drew the sun face in my last blog post. He is 3 going on 8 sometimes. He keeps us young and makes us laugh.
Enjoy your weekend and if you are still stuck with snow then stay safe and warm. We have not seen the ground for over two months now. I think everyone will rejoice when Spring arrives.
