Nothing like putting it all out there to see what you can do and that is exactly what I am doing here. If you recall I wrote about a show coming up that will be commemorative of the Armory Show held in New York city in 1913. You can see the blog post here.
The artist in that show I am interpreting is Mary Cassatt. The image on the left is Mary's piece that was in the Armory. I decided to paint my daughter in law and grandson in a similar pose to Cassatt's painting.
I started by posing them in a wicker chair and photographed them till I had enough reference to work with. Tonight I finished my sketch that I will transfer to the canvas which is 30 by 24 inches. The Cassatt original was 32 x 24 inches. Right now I think I will use the same color scheme only keep the style of clothes they had on for the photos. The other difference will be that I work in acrylics and Cassatt worked in oils.
So send me some good energy as I work out of my comfort zone and can channel Mary Cassatt as I honor her and all she did for women in the arts. You can check out her complete works and biography here www.marycassatt.org
Thanks for the good vibes everyone!
