Presque Isle Lighthouse
10 x 20 inches watercolor on canvas
$295 unframed - Please contact me about purchasing, Thank you
The Presque Isle Light is one of three lighthouses in Erie PA. The lighthouse is located on the northern shore of Presque Isle State Park. It was built in 1872 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
On July 25, 2014 the Commonwealth officially announce the beginning of a long term lease of the Presque Isle Lighthouse to a newly formed 501 c 3 organization which after planned restorations will open to the public for tours and special events. You can read more about it here.
After the renovations are complete I will have to paint the lighthouse again. A bit of the outside structure will change plus I will be able to take the tour and photograph the inside.
As for the painting itself I enjoy watercolor on canvas. Unlike paper it is a bit more forgiving. After this type of painting is complete I spray it with a UV protecting acrylic spray, I like using the gloss spray, then I brush an acrylic matte varnish over the painting. This method gives me a satin finish and the painting can be framed without glass just like you would an acrylic painting.
Enjoy and share with someone who might be interested.
Lately I have been doing a lot of thinking.... perhaps to much thinking and not enough doing. And it is time for me to move forward to a better schedule with my family and my art.
I fully support the organizations I do volunteer work for but it is time to say 'no' and cut back. Time for me to find other ways to support them in ways that do not take up a lot of time.
Now I really need to take a better approach to my business. And one of the first things I started was claiming Tuesday as studio day. I told my husband if I was to get any art created I needed to be creating on a regular schedule. 'No' phone calls (yep there is that 'no' again), 'No' internet, 'No' appointments, and 'No' cooking on Tuesday!
I read this week on facebook where someone posted an image of an artist and the caption was don't wait for inspiration just show up and get to work. That is exactly what I am going to do, show up on Tuesday and get to work. I had a few hiccups of interruption but for the most part I had a good start to a new painting. A watercolor on canvas of our Presque Isle Lighthouse. It's not complete yet but so far I like how it is turning out. See pics below.
I feel like I've always been on a journey but this is different. I'm in control now and looking forward to the end result. I love being an artist! So my blog here is also going to focus on that journey along with the creating of art.

Giclée Print - Pigment Ink on Museum Etching Paper
Image 12 x 9 inches
$45. available in my shop here >>
The original painting of this giclee print is a watercolor on canvas. I love the organic texture I can achieve working on canvas which is a whole different feel than with paper. I photographed the Ring-billed Gull on an overcast day which seem gray and dull till I zoomed in and saw the reflection and the beauty of the earthy colors. The Gull seemed to be reflecting on his thoughts also and made me think of times when standing at the waters edge letting the surf gently roll over my feet. Peaceful and relaxing.
I now also have Note Cards for sale.
You can find them in the shop here >>
