Thank you for your patience with me and switching things around.
OK yes it is sweet to be back in the studio. I took a few weeks for birding during migration and then the garden started to scream at me. So there you have it my long excuse for not painting.
Fresh off the studio table is this sweet painting of a Gold-crowned Kinglet. In fact I titled it 'Sweetness'. I love painting these little birds and look forward every Spring and Fall when they pass through. Not only do I get to see them on Presque Isle State Park they also will make a stop in my garden!
For this painting I worked from an image I photographed last Fall. I love the warm brown colors with the warm grey of the bird and his gold crown. I like to work witha minimum of color so for this painting I used acrylic colors: Turner's Yellow, French Ultramarine, Cad Red Medium, Payne's Gray and White. I like to work from the background forward using soft blended layers. I find just keeping my canvas damp helps extend the acrylics and blending. To wet and it just pushes around to much. I have tried extenders but they make the paint to sticky. I am experimenting with video so hopefully will have something for you in the future.
